Engineering Manager (Platform / Product)

Run one of our two engineering groups as a player-coach: five to seven engineers, delivery, code quality and people, while staying close enough to the code to review the pull requests that matter.

Hybrid · Ho Chi Minh City, VietnamFull Time8+ years

About the role

Magnitudeminds builds production AI, data and platform systems for enterprise clients through dedicated AI teams, alongside its own products. The engineering team is growing across Go platform work, Python SDKs and developer tooling, React applications, and AI agents and evaluation. As it grows we are splitting it into two groups, platform and product, each run by an engineering manager. You take one of those groups, matched to your background, and run it as a player-coach. You own delivery, review quality, the health of the codebases your group works in, and the growth of five to seven engineers. You still read every pull request that matters, and you ship code when it is the fastest way to unblock the team. Our client engagements run as AI Pods: a senior engineering squad led by an Engineering Manager who scopes the work, sets the technical direction and owns the delivery outcome, with clear charters for who owns rituals and release go/no-go, who owns the technical system, and who owns verification and documentation. Work runs on Jira, GitHub pull requests with CI gates, a written definition of done and definition of ready, daily written reports, and staging ahead of production. The team is hybrid in Ho Chi Minh City and works with the founder directly.

Responsibilities

Delivery

  • Own the rituals for your group: sprint goal and plan, standup, retro, and a backlog with written acceptance criteria and a merge order.
  • Own the definition of done and definition of ready, defect severity, and the release go/no-go.
  • Keep the pull request queue short and merges flowing; a long review backlog is a process problem to fix, not a load to carry.
  • Publish delivery metrics (lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, escaped defects) and run the root-cause review when something escapes.

Technical Quality

  • Review architecture-significant pull requests yourself and hold the bar on tests, size limits and refactor discipline.
  • Own the release gates with your lead engineer: CI, staging validation, migration safety, and the rules for shared environments.
  • Turn client use cases and requirements into engineering documents with acceptance criteria before the work starts.
  • Keep the written engineering standards current and make sure the group actually works by them.

People

  • Hire for the open seats in your group: structured interview loops, take-home reviews, references, offers.
  • Onboard new engineers onto the standards, the codebase and the ceremonies within their first two weeks.
  • Run weekly 1:1s, write growth plans, and hold performance conversations early and directly.
  • Own presence and attendance for your group: a named backup per role, absences announced before, not after.

Clients and Cross-Functional

  • Represent Magnitudeminds to client stakeholders in your area: status, risks and trade-offs in writing, escalations with the founder's prior support.
  • Partner with the other engineering manager on the seam between platform and product so nobody fails at the handoff.
  • Report status weekly to the founder so the business can plan around engineering without a meeting.

Qualifications

Must-Have Experience

  • 8+ years in software engineering, including 2+ years managing engineers with direct reports, ideally on client-facing delivery or a product team at a startup or scale-up.
  • Still hands-on: you can read and review Python, Go or TypeScript with authority and have shipped production code in at least one of them in the last two years.
  • A delivery process you have run end to end: sprint planning, backlog hygiene, code review standards, CI gates and release management.
  • Experience with AI, data or platform systems in production, or the track record to learn them fast: agents and evaluation, data pipelines, distributed services.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot or similar) and a clear opinion on how a team should use them.
  • Clear written communication in English: requirements documents, decision records, status reports to clients and the founder.

Leadership

  • You have hired and onboarded engineers, including running structured interview loops.
  • You coach through code review and 1:1s, and you do not avoid hard performance conversations.
  • You decide with the trade-offs written down and push back on scope with evidence.

Preferred/Bonus

  • Experience growing or splitting a team from five to twelve or more engineers.
  • Experience leading a dedicated or embedded engineering team for an enterprise client.
  • Experience with durable execution, event-driven systems, data platforms or LLM applications.
  • Strong Vietnamese and English communication skills.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and performance incentives
  • Direct line to the founder and a real say in how the engineering organisation is built
  • Client-facing authority with the backing to use it
  • Flexible, hybrid work arrangements in Ho Chi Minh City
  • A collaborative, innovative engineering team environment
